The Best Anti-Parasitic Foods and Supplements for Gut Issues

Parasites can cause major inflammation, stress, fatigue and gut issues, and you likely have them! Many foods are naturally anti-parasitic and elicit powerful anti-microbial effects. Getting more of these in your diet, especially if you’re currently parasite-cleansing, will help keep your gut microbiome healthier and fight parasites.

If you haven’t read 4 Reasons Parasites Are Making You Sick where I talk about symptoms and causes of parasites, go read that first.

Best Anti-Parasitic Foods

Garlic

Known as a natural cold and flu remedy, garlic is a fantastic food to consume if you’re looking to boost immunity and clear parasites, bacteria or yeast infections. It’s best consumed raw after being smashed and sitting for 10 minutes to activate the main anti-microbial compound: allicin.

Oregano and Thyme

These common culinary herbs provide anti-parasitic, anti-vi ral and anti-fungal properties that help boost immune function. Add them to soups, sauces, vegetables and more!

Olive and Coconut Oil

High quality olive and coconut oils may help control fungal infections which can feed parasites. They have antimicrobial benefits which help fight a variety of pathogens.

Apple Cider Vinegar

You’ve likely heard of apple cider vinegar’s seemingly magical properties by now; I don’t think there’s anything it can’t do! Take apple cider vinegar before meals to promote healthy stomach acid levels, fend off parasites and support optimal pH balance.

Remove Foods That Fuel Parasites

Removing foods that contribute to inflammation, such as refined sugars, refined carbs, refined oils, alcohol, gluten and dairy are essential. A whole-food diet that's organic, minimally processed and free of common allergens like gluten, is going to best support your gut-healing journey. Avoid raw or undercooked fish, seafood and meats as well as pork.

Anti-Parasitic Supplements

Plants have the innate ability to adapt to their environment and fend off pathogens, making them great for clearing us of parasites! They are multifunctional and elicit a variety of anti-microbial effects, addressing multiple infections at once, which traditional antibiotics cannot do.

Berberine: Berberine-containing herbs such as oregon grape, barberry and goldenseal are powerful parasite-fighting agents.

Black Walnut: This common anti-parasitic herb helps fight bacteria, fungus, supports skin health and of course, helps clear underlying causes of abdominal pain, diarrhea and other digestive problems due to parasites. Additionally, it acts as a gentle laxative to support elimination of waste and parasites.

Wormwood: Artemisinin, or wormwood is another herb often used in anti-parasitic combinations and is an anti-inflammatory.

Oil of Oregano: The oil extracted from oregano leaves is fantastic for not just parasites, but candida, mold, vi ruses, bacterial infections and overgrowth like SIBO, which can cause uncomfortable digestive issues. The two main active ingredients, carvacrol and thymol, are potent antioxidants and anti-inflammatories and have broad-spectrum antimicrobial effects.

Mimosa Pudica: Other incredible herb that I often use with my clients for digestive problems and clearing parasites. It helps remove worms and other types of parasites and acts as a binder for elimination.

Probiotics: Probiotics help promote a healthy microbial balance overall, making them a good addition to anti-parasitic protocols, and beneficial for digestive problems like bloating, constipation and diarrhea.

Remember

Addressing stress, emotional factors, exercising, toxins and the overall gut terrain is important to resolving parasites, gut problems and supporting immune health. Always work with a trained practitioner.
