9 Worst Foods to Eat & What to Eat Instead (Part 1)

Most food on the market shouldn’t even be considered food because it’s so chemically altered. Now I don’t think it’s healthy to be so fixated on foods we shouldn’t eat, but it’s important to educate ourselves and know what’s in our food.

The unfortunate truth is that food companies are not here for our health, so we must take matters into our own hands to protect ourselves and our loved ones.

Here are my top 9 food-like products to avoid.

Seed Oils

Canola oil (aka rapeseed oil) goes through a multi-step process that results in harmful trans-fats they’re not required to label. Other seed oils such as safflower, corn, sunflower and soybean are NOT healthier alternatives. Seed oils are processed and even if they’re cold-pressed they’re still highly susceptible to damage due to their mono and polyunsaturated fat makeup. Keep in mind these toxic oils are ALWAYS used in restaurants and fast food places.

High Fructose Corn Syrup

High fructose corn syrup is a terribly processed form of sugar that often comes from GMO corn. It’s highly addictive and contributes to fatty liver disease, diabetes and cancer. Be on the lookout for this on the labels of any packaged food or drink and remember that “corn syrup” isn’t any better.

Table Salt

Table salt is simply lacking horribly in minerals, is highly processed and contains added sugar! This is the type of salt we want to avoid, as well as salt in processed foods which is highly refined and high in sodium, while lacking other beneficial minerals.

Processed Meat

It’s well known that processed meat contributes to cancer due to nitrates, which convert into cancer-causing nitrosamines in the body. That’s really why meat has gotten its bad rap! Processed meat is also linked to numerous other health issues and should not be a regular part of our diet. It’s much easier to avoid processed meat when eating at home. Avoid products like bacon, ham and other deli meats, unless they have no added sugar or nitrates. Mclean Meats is a brand I will occasionally buy from the health store or I buy from farms I trust.

Fake Meat

Beyond Meat contains genetically modified soy and canola oil, highly addictive MSG, difficult to digest plant proteins, synthetic vitamins and other gut-disrupting ingredients. This is NOT a health food. This brand is also not even the worst product on the market, The Impossible Burger is much worse!

Fake Butter (margarine, dairy-free butter)

Did you know that margarine is gray before it’s coloured yellow? Gross right? In no world will hydrogenated oils ever be good for us. Watch out for other plant-based butter-like spreads that contain canola oil, sunflower oil and other seed oils - even if they’re combined with healthier oils like coconut.

Diet Soda

Diet soda is not a healthier option than regular soda! It contains artificial sweeteners, flavours and colours, is highly addictive, toxic to the brain and contributes to weight gain and digestive issues.

Artificial Sweeteners

These fake sweeteners are hundreds of times sweetener than sugar and are detrimental to our health in many ways. From Alzheimer's disease to cancer to obesity, these alternatives are anything but healthy.

Factory-Farmed Meat

There is a massive issue with factory-farmed meat and I am not ok with it. Not only are these factories causing unnecessary pollution, but they’re producing animals that are toxic, sick and drug and hormone-ridden, which is a big problem for consumers. Avoid factory-farmed meat at all costs.
